Perth Sun Fair is pleased to invite entries for their inaugural art competition, Perth Sun Fair 2008.
This is a non-acquisitive art competition and all entries submitted need to address the theme of renewable energy, energy efficiency, environment conservation and sustainable living.
Art works submitted must also be conceptually refined, experimental and innovative and exhibit technical innovation and excellence.
Entries Close: Friday 21st March 2008 at 5pm. No late entries will be accepted.
Application fee of $22 (Inc GST). Free for all Primary and Secondary School Students. Payment should be made out to 'UWA – Perth Sun Fair' by cheque or money order. Direct Debit payments can be made by emailing leonie.wight@perthsunfair.com.au for bank account details.This fee goes towards administrative costs (it is non-refundable and must accompany a signed application form or an application form submitted online).
Images of the artwork/s to be submitted need to be emailed to leonie.wight@perthsunfair.com.au or posted to Perth Sun Fair Art Competition, Safety and Health Office, University of Western Australia, 35 Stirling Highway, Nedlands, WA 6009. When emailing please name each image file with your initial and surname, e.g. jcitizen.jpeg. Each image should have a resolution of 72dpi and be saved as an image size of 1024x768 pixels. jpeg files only please.
Details of the work/s need to be included on the application form (title, medium, dimensions – hxw cm).
Where applicable please include a one page CV giving current biological, exhibition and collection details.
Late applications will not be accepted.
Selection
Invitation to exhibit is at the discretion of the selection panel and is based on an assessment of your submitted images. The selection panel will be made up of three representatives from the arts community. The open significant award will be judged independently. The curator takes no part in the in the selection or judging of the prize. All applicants will be notified by mail or email regarding the success of their application.
Conditions of Entry
Entries must address the theme of renewable energy, energy efficiency, environment conservation and natural living to be eligible for entry and award.
Art works must have been completed during the twelve months before April 6th 2008 and be the artist’s original work.
A maximum of two works per artist will be accepted.
A fee of $22 per application (Inc GST) must accompany the application form. Cheques are to be made payable to University of Western Australia. Entry is free for Primary and Secondary school students.
Specifications. Entries can consist of any medium with a maximum size not exceeding 1.5mx1.5m (including frame) and the weight is not to exceed 25 kg. Multiple panels within the maximum size limit will be accepted as one entry. Please note: sculptures must not exceed 1.8 m in height and 1.5m wide – in the event sculptural work is selected it is the artist’s responsibility to place the work in the exhibition.
The organisers of Perth Sun Fair may reject any entry on the grounds that material, subject or methods of production are considered unsuitable for the award. Archival materials and quality of construction will be taken into consideration.
Presentation should include frame and hanging devices where applicable. Works not meeting standard will not be hung.
The Judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. Only entries addressing the theme will be considered by the judges.
Copyright. Organisers of the Perth Sun Fair reserve the right to reproduce the winning works, within reason, for promotional purposes. By entering the competition the artist assigns to Perth Sun Fair the right to do so without charge. Appropriate acknowledgements will be made and Australian copyright laws will be observed. Artists are responsible for satisfying copyright requirements should they have, in their exhibited work, reproduced or quoted from previously printed or painted material.
Sale of works. Works will be offered for sale at the price indicated on the entry form.
Commission of 25% (Inc GST) will be retained by the organisers of Perth Sun Fair for any sale during the exhibition. Net proceeds of sales will be paid to the entrant within fourteen days of the close of the exhibition (see GST implications).
Insurance. The organisers of Perth Sun Fair and University of Western Australia take no responsibility for any damage to the works of art. This is also the case in the event of fire, flood, theft, accident or vandalism. All due care and consideration will be taken when handling and displaying exhibits.
