Anti Nuclear Alliance

The Anti-Nuclear Alliance of WA has campaigned since 1997 against the nuclearisation of Australia in all its aspects: uranium mining, the new Œresearch‚ reactor in Sydney, irradiation of food, the hosting of an international N-waste dump and the use of depleted uranium in weapons.

Through our stalls, website, public meetings, and media liaison, we counter the misleading mantra of the nuclear industry that it is the answer to the greenhouse problem. If nuclear energy is assessed for greenhouse gas emissions over the whole cycle - mining, milling, construction, reprocessing of fuel, decommissioning of reactors, transport and storage of waste (rather than just the production of electricity) ˆ the sums look very different. Hills Climate Action Group

We campaign locally against climate change, including the use of coal to generate electricity, and highlight the necessity of taking up renewable energy. We promote local measures to create a sustainable community.
E.g. in 2008 we campaigned for more footpaths in Darlington to enable children to walk safely to school. We sponsored the first Living Smart course in Darlington, to help people live more sustainably. We negotiated a bulk solar panel deal to enable more residents to utilise solar power.

In 2009 we want to negotiate bulk rainwater tanks to move further towards a sustainable community in Darlington.

Hills No War Alliance

We campaign for peace. We show films and put on forum in the Hills area. We hold an alternative AZAC Day commemoration.

Department of Agriculture - Biodiesel Production Demonstration Trailer

The Department of Agriculture is investing in biodiesel research with the knowledge that it is not currently viable, but future pressure on oil reserves will eventually make it a practical for Western Australian farmers to grown their own fuel.

The Department of Agriculture is committed to investigating the practical and economic components of on farm biodiesel production in anticipation of increasing demand for this information as fuel prices rise.

Our demonstration trailer will be on display at the 2007 Perth Sun Fair with staff on hand to answer questions and discuss the issues involved in biodiesel production.
